Personal Information Display

In collaboration we have been exploring how ‘Ambient Services’ could be provided on BT Retail products such as ‘Panorama’. Panorama consists of a Broadband Wireless Router with integral DECT Wideband Voice (WBV) Handset. Ambient services are displayed on the screen of the phone handset and could potentially provide none PC owners with access to internet based: news, sports, travel, weather, lottery, and trivia information.

BARC has been worked closely with Thomson since March to develop software to enable delivery and display of ‘ambient information’, derived from customised public RSS feeds, which can be displayed on both the ‘Panorama’ DECT Handset and prototype Personal Information Display (PID).

The Personal Information Display provides a glanceable overview of personalised information, while offering the capability for more detailed enquiry. New alerts are announced with display colour change and customisable ambient alert ‘ring-tones’. Ambient alerts are configured and personalised using an Ambient Service Internet Portal via a PC.
